The Department of Extension to Agriculture and Natural Resources with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Field Specialist – Agricultural Engineer. This position will be filled at the Field Specialist II or III level. Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Field Specialists provide educational leadership in the application of knowledge, grounded in research-based science, to help Iowans and agricultural industry prosper. The agricultural engineering educational leadership responsibilities focus on the development, delivery, and support for: livestock facilities, specifically dairy systems, including housing, manure and odor management, ventilation systems, and animal handling and feeding systems; farm power and machinery operation and management; grain drying, handling and storage; and soil conservation and water management. Leadership responsibilities also will focus on helping Iowans work together, create a vision, and make a difference through initiatives that address the complex issues and opportunities vital to Iowa’s agricultural future. Field specialists specialize in their assigned subject-matter area and function in a team setting to develop annual program plans that address client needs and result in the delivery of multi-region and interdisciplinary programming. Team members include extension state specialists, field specialists, and regional extension education directors. Client groups will include: crop and livestock producers, landowners, agribusiness, educational institutions, governmental agencies, farm organizations, cooperatives, commodity groups, community colleges, youth, and mass media. Field specialists are expected to participate in and pursue grant and contract funding opportunities to provide additional support for programming efforts. Subject matter leadership is provided through the College of Agriculture and Life Science’s Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering. In addition to duties above, a Field Specialist III will create and deliver comprehensive and complex interdisciplinary programming; conduct and analyzes needs assessment activities and identify, develop, and implement innovative and creative ways to meet clients’ needs; establishes, organizes, and facilitates networks and coalitions at the local, area, and state levels to build community capacity; and provides leadership/supervision and subject-matter expertise at the local, area, state, and national level.
